First edition, printed for private circulation. Small 4to. Original green horizontal ribbed cloth with gilt titles and tooling to the spine and upper cover, design of a sheaf of clubs in gilt on the upper cover and in blind on the rear cover, all edges gilt. Wood engraved head and tail pieces throughout. A good copy, with some splits to the joints and staining to the upper corner of many of the pages, splitting to both hinges, but holding. A previous owner's inscription, outlining the rarity of the book to the front pastedown and an early gift inscription to the half title.
A noted rarity, privately printed for subscribers. Only 58 subscribers are listed and it is unlikely that many more copies were printed.
