The Watch & Clockmakers' Handbook
W. Kent & Co., 1881.
Fourth edition. Brown publisher's cloth with gilt lettering on spine and blind stamped decoration on upper and lower boards. Line drawn diagrams by the author throughout. A very good copy, with slight wear to the head of the spine and corners. Loosely inserted are newspaper cuttings on the cleaning of different metals and an advert for Waterbury Watches.
A delightful little handbook, substantially added to for this edition, for those "engaged in the horological arts" [Preface]. Includes chapters on Pendulums, Chronographs, Quarter Chime Clocks, Escapements, pinion cutting and other arcane practices.
