First edition illustrated by Detmold. 4to. White buckram covers, lettering in gilt. Both spine and upper cover have gilt decoration. This copy protected by the original publisher's card box, with a printed colour plate on the upper cover. Twelve wonderful colour plates all mounted under captioned tissue guards plus numerous black and white illustrations. A very near fine copy, the white buckram gleaming and plates crisp, a gift inscription to front pastedown and a little offseting to front free endpaper, but the contents are remarkably fresh. The box has a couple of splits to the corners but is sound.
The colours used in the illustrations are rich and vibrant, perfectly reflecting the jungle scenes and exotic nature of the tales.
Tales include: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Sindbad the Sailor, Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp.
