Lyrics Pathetic and Humorous From a-Z
Frederick Warne, 1909.
Deluxe edition, in portfolio form of a pictorial alphabet. Original fold over cloth box, measuring 34.5 x 27.5cm, with a large pictorial onlay printed in colour. Housing the individual leaves of the alphabet portfolio. The printed pages are mounted onto green art paper and laid loosely in the box. Comprising the two double page spreads of the pictorial endpapers, title page and 24 colour plates, with each letter of the alphabet represented by a drawing and a limerick, XYZ are combined. A very good copy, minor spotting to the title page plate and light wear and corner repairs to the box.
Estimated to be a print run of circa 160. This edition used unbound sheets from the trade edition, issued the previous year, and was sold at the price of 10s 7d (as opposed to the trade edition which cost 6s). Inevitably one of the rarities of Dulac's canon or work, this is an arresting piece of illustration.
