I was beginning to frighten myself
RACKHAM, Arthur Poe's Tales of Mystery and Imagination
Harrap, 1935.
First Rackham edition. 4to. Black cloth with gilt lettering and vignettes, in the pictorial dustwrapper with a striking wraparound design. Stunning black and white illustrated endpapers, as well as 12 colour plates and 17 line drawings. A fine book in a fine dustwrapper.
The wraparound colour scene on this dustwrapper does not appear in the book. Rackham had a real affinity with Poe's tales. He noted that whilst working on this book the illustrations, "were so horrible I was beginning to frighten myself."
