Comprising, When We Were Very Young; Winnie the Pooh; Now We Are Six; The House at Pooh Corner
We'll be Friends Forever, won't we, Pooh?' asked Piglet. Even longer,' Pooh answered.
The 'Pooh' Books Comprising, When We Were Very Young; Winnie the Pooh; Now We Are Six; The House at Pooh Corner
Methuen, 1928.
Monogram edition. Four volumes, being the first edition of The House at Pooh Corner and the 1928 editions of the other three volumes. Uniformly bound in publisher's tan roan, with gilt titles and and vignettes of the characters to the spine. Gilt and brown blocked border to the upper cover with a brown blocked hexagonal device with A.A.M. blocked in gilt. All edges gilt with silk marker sash to each volume. Pictorial endpapers. Illustrated throughout in line by E.H. Shepard. An extremely handsome set. In fine condition, bright and clean with just trivial rubbing to the spine ends. Free from the heavy wear usually associated with these delicate leather bindings.
The four volumes in this monogram edition were published to celebrate the publication of the fourth and final book in the Winnie the Pooh series, The House at Pooh Corner. A deluxe format using leather bindings an extra gilt was used, rather like the deluxe issues of the separate trade editions, but in this case all in a uniform binding. The format clearly proved popular as all the title were reprinted with this binding, but sets of the first issue in the formats are uncommon, particularly in such nice condition.
