A Bear No Matter How He Tries Grows Tubby Without Exercise
The Christopher Robin Verses Being "When We Were Very Young" and "Now We Are Six" with a preface for parents.
Methuen, 1932.
First edition of this combined book of verses, with new colour illustrations by E.H. Shepard and a new preface by A.A. Milne, first issue with blue cloth, gilt lettering and vignette. This copy complete with the original pictorial dustwrapper, with printed price of 8/6 net, and original orange printed protective wrapper. 8vo. Top edge blue. Twelve colour plates and many line drawings by E.H. Shepard. A near fine copy, with some spotting to the page margins, in a very good dustwrapper indeed, which due to the protection of the outer dustwrapper is clean and bright, save for a few marks to the rear and some creasing to the flaps. The printed outer dustwrapper is very good, with some general wear.
It was always probable that, sooner or later, the two books of verse which I had written for and about children would come together within the covers of one volume... the invention of a title has proved too much for me. All I can think of is The Christopher Robin Verses. New colour illustrations by E.H. Shepard accompany Milne's now famous poems, Vespers, The King's Breakfast, Lines and Squares and many others.
