The Pilgrim's Progress From This World To That Which Is To Come. New edition, with a memoir, and notes, by George Offor.
Routledge, 1861.
A new edition, first in this format. 8vo. In stunning publisher's decorative cloth of purple and pink over bevelled boards, lettered and decorated in gilt. All edges gilt. Illustrated with one-hundred and ten designs by J.D. Watson, engraved on wood by the Brothers Dalziel. A near fine copy, slightest fading to the spine, and slightly tender front hinge.
Bunyan wrote much of this book, perhaps one of the most famous Christian allegories, while in Bedford county gaol, having been arrested for his beliefs during the "Great Persecution" of 1660-1690. This copy is exceptionally beautifully presented in its nineteenth century cloth.
