With a Memoir
John Murray, 1841.
Second edition. 12mo. Dark green cloth, decoration stamped in blind, with gilt lettering and vignette. Twelve etched illustrations by Cruickshank. A very good copy indeed, previous owner's name on the front pastedown.
Charles Dibdin (1745-1833) wrote hundreds of poems and songs, many of which were used in his comic operas and boisterous entertainments. "The sea-songs, numbering close on a hundred, are the best though by no means the only good ones. 'Tom Bowling' and 'Poor Jack' and 'Twas in the good ship Rover' are well enough known."
