PUBLISHER'S DELUXE ISSUE
Shakespeare's Comedy of the Tempest
Hodder and Stoughton, 1908.
First edition illustrated by Dulac, deluxe issue. 4to. Specially bound in a publisher's binding of dark green crushed morocco with decorations and lettering embossed in gilt. Top edge gilt. Pictorial endpapers and 40 colour plates mounted onto Japon and set within a printed olive green border, under captioned tissue guards. In near fine condition with a slightly faded spine and bookplate on front pastedown. A very handsome book.
This unrecorded deluxe edition differs from the trade edition in a number of ways, from the sumptuous leather binding to the mounting of the plates on japon rather than green art paper. It also introduces the use of a galleon motif to the endpapers, which does not appear in the trade edition.
