First edition. Original green cloth with gilt lettering. Author's presentation copy, inscribed to the Earl of Jersey on Stevenson's behalf, "from the Author", above which the recipient has added his name. Frontispiece is a sketch map of part of the North Coast of Opolu. A very good copy indeed, just a small edge tear to lower section of the front endpaper. Housed in custom made drop over box.
Margaret, Countess of Jersey, and wife of the Earl of Jersey met Stevenson during a visit to Apia in the South Seas in 1892. A warm friendship was struck up and a long correspondence ensued.
