The Secret Agent
Methuen, 1907.
First edition, first issue with inserted ads dated September 1907. Original red cloth, with gilt titles and decoration to spine. A fine copy, both the cloth and gilt extremely bright and fresh. Discreet book plate on the front pastedown. An uncommonly crisp copy.
The Secret Agent depicts the atmosphere of Edwardian London in a psychological thriller of the anarchist underworld. Conrad's wit and chivalrous magnanimity are at their airiest in this novel. (Connolly)
A Haycraft Queen cornerstone and said to be one of the favourite novels of both Graham Greene and Eric Ambler.
