Two volumes finely bound as one by Bayntun Riviere in half red morocco with raised bands and gilt titles and vignettes to the spine. Top edge gilt. From the sporting library of R. N. H. Moore Stevens with his bookplate on the front pastedown. Twelve hand coloured plates by Alken and others. A fine copy both internally and externally.
In his dedication to the first edition, the author writes,
"In these degenerate days, when so called improvements in our social system, and in the state and appearance of the country, have well-nigh put a stop to our sports and pleasures in the fields, it may seem ill timed to bring forward a work on a subject which appears to be fast declining in general estimation."
The book has since become a standard work on the subject.
