First edition. Original red cloth in pictorial dustwrapper illustrated by Peggy Fortnum. Signed by the author, "With best wishes, Michael Bond" on the front endpaper. Illustrated in line by Peggy Fortnum. A very good copy, with a little damp mottling to the boards in a near fine dustwrapper, which is bright and crisp with a couple of short closed tears with a pen mark and small hole to the upper cover.

The scarce first appearance of Paddington Bear.
