First edition with illustrations by William Heath Robinson. 4to. Red cloth with gilt titles on the upper cover and spine. The spine is stamped with gilt decoration and the upper cover has an inserted panel of ivory buckram, elaborately decorated in gilt. Top edge red. Publisher's box present. Pictorial title page, sixteen colour plates mounted under captioned tissue guards, all plates in perfect condition, and a profusion of line drawings, both full page plates and decorative head and tail pieces. A fine, bright copy in stunning condition, one pinprick mark on the upper cover. The publisher's box is fragile and lacking some side sections but it has served to preserve the book in a lovely bright condition so that it has none of the usual fading to the spine, and there is none of the usual foxing to the pages. An amazing example of this beautiful book.
