Original pen, ink, watercolour and wash heightened with gold and graphite. 270x305mm. Signed and dated (1913) in the upper right corner. A fine and detailed piece in perfect condition complete with original frame and backing board with the Original Leicester Galleries label and exhibition notice pasted to the rear.
Nielsen produced 26 watercolours for In Powder & Crinoline to illustrate seven fairy tales chosen by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch. This watercolour illustrates the story, "The Czarina's Violet".
