Van Tassell edition. Two volumes, large 8vo. Blue boards, lettered and decorated in gilt, with white oval to the upper covers. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Silk page markers present. Four black and white plates by Arthur Rackham, plus 28 other black and white plates, some from photographs. Decorative red and green leaf and floral design borders on every page throughout the text. A very good set indeed, corners rubbed and slight foxing but generally a lovely, bright set.
A collection of 34 essays and short stories including two of Irving's best-known stories,"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle". Geoffrey Crayon was Irving's pseudonym.
