The New Belfry Of Christ Church, Oxford. A Monograph by D.C.L.
James Parker and Co., 1872.
First edition, first issue with no mention of Stacy in the imprint. Original brick red wrappers printed in black. A fine copy, faint ink numeral to the upper cover, but virtually as issued.
One of Dodgson's famous 'Oxford Squibs', good natured satires, usually of a local political nature disguised in the sort of 'nonsense' writing popularised in the author's fiction writings. This one apparently aimed at Henry Liddell, father of Alice and Dean of Christ Church at the time, over the "bald wooden cube erected to contain the bells extruded from the Cathedral, and placed over the beautiful staircase leading to the hall, in the south east corner of Tom Quad."
