Lippincott, 1960.
Privately printed for the publisher. Original pictorial paper wrappers. A very good copy indeed.
The Seraph And The Zambesi first appeared in the United States in The Go-Away Bird And Other Stories in the Autumn of 1960. This edition was privately printed before Christmas for the publisher and "sent to the friends of J. P. Lippincott Company with the compliments of the season."
Of the story, which won the Observer's 1951 Christmas-fiction prize, Stannard has written that it is "possibly the first example by a British author of what became known as magical realism."
