A TALL COPY
By the author of "Pride and Prejudice," "Mansfield-Park," &c. with a biographical notice of the author
Murray, 1817.
First edition. Four volumes, bound in recent half calf, over (probably original) grey paper covered boards. All fly (half) titles as called for, All front and rear blanks present, and retaining the original endpapers (watermarked 1816). 32 very vibrant colour plates mounted onto brown art paper and protected by captioned tissue guards. An unusually tall set (the page size is 178x104mm against the uncut leaf size of 190x110mm), that is free from marginal tears or chips. The pages are generally clean with occasional foxing and browning. Hinges strengthened, previous ownership name (FD MacKinnon) on each endpaper. Housed in custom made quarter morocco clamshell box.
Austen's last and posthumously published book, contains the first and last novels she wrote. It was her most immediately successful novel, selling most of the 1750 copies of the first edition within a year, the fruits of which Austen was, sadly, unable to enjoy.
