SIGNED BY MONTY
El Alamein to the River Sangro
Hutchinson & Co., 1948.
First commercially published edition. Original red cloth, lettered in gilt with vignette blocked in black and white to the upper cover. Inscriby by Montgomery to the front endpaper, "Inscribed by Montgomery of Alamein Field-Marshal." Map frontispiece and eight fold-out plates of maps. A very good copy indeed with a little wear to the spine ends and the lettering on the spine.
Loosely laid in is a two page carbon typescript, containing, "The war travels of Humber staff touring car no. M239459 - 'Old Faithful'", used by Montgomery and Sir Oliver Leese.
Taken from Montgomery's diaries, this is his account of the Eighth Army's operations in the Mediterranean from El Alamein, 13 August 1942, to the crossing of the River Sangro in Italy, and subsequent operations there until 31 December 1943.
