The History and Antiquities of Kiddington First Published as A Specimen of a History of Oxfordshire
J. Nichols, Son & Bentley, 1815.
Third edition. Quarto. Original red paper covered boards, spine rebacked with red cloth. Pages uncut. Frontispiece engraving of Kiddington church and two fonts after J.C. Buckler. A very good copy, with some wear to the edges and repairs to the corners of the boards. Foxing to the frontispiece, but text generally clean and fresh.
Originally written in 1781 whilst the author was rector of Kiddington, this remains the most comprehensive history of this Oxfordshire village. It was "generally allowed to be one of the most elegant and judicious Accounts of a single Parish that has yet appeared... [it].. would be esteemed an acceptable acquisition to the Topographical Collector." [Preface]
