First edition. 4to. Limited to 150 copies of which this is number 59. Original ring bound typescript in card wrappers with an enlarged five pound note design across the covers. A very good copy indeed, which shows minor creasing to the corners and at the binder holes and slight spotting to the upper cover.
Produced for copyright purposes as it was in the process of being made into a film, issued under the same title and starring Richard Attenborough as the confidence trickster, Silas Lowther. The book was formally published a year later by Joseph in an edition of 9000 copies and simultaneously in paperback by Sphere in an edition of 250,000. Uncommon by nature of its limitation.
