Skelton, 1823.
First edition. Folio. Bound in early twentieth century half navy blue morocco. Top edge gilt Fifty black and white engravings of antiquities in Oxfordshire including one of Hart Street, Henley. Bookplate and ownership signature of Stanley Barry, with Barry's annotations to the section on Hampton Gay (Barry's family seat). Some splitting to the hinge at the title page, plates a little foxed, but generally a clean, tall copy.
Stanley Leonard Barry (1873-1943), was the owner of Hampton Gay Manor (in the Barry family since it was built in the 16th century), and from 1928, owner of the village of Hampton Gay having purchased it from Wadham College, Oxford.
Hampton Gay is featured in the Plougley Hundred section of Skelton's Oxfordshire and which has a steel engraving of the manor house. This section has a number of marginal notes correcting the text.
PROVENANCE: Stanley Leonard Barry (bookplate to front end paper).
