Author's presentation copy, inscribed on the front endpaper, "For Laurence with deep gratitude from Evelyn Waugh Oct 8th 1959" A fine copy with the faint ghosting of a tape mark at the base of the spine.

Laurence Eyres was a pupil and friend of Ronald Knox, corresponding with his over a period of some 46 years. He was also Waugh's single greatest source for this biography of Knox. Eyres edited a vollume of Knox's collected writings, also published in 1959.
