Originally published in 1824, James Morier was a British diplomat based in Iran and a century later Cyrus Baldrige spent a year in Iran, following the trail of the fictitious Hajji Baba, "making hundreds of sketches" which resulted in this lavishly illustrated edition. The bright and colourful illustrations are "based upon an intimate knowledge of Persia and the Persians". [Introduction]
