A very evocative piece of TV ephemera.
Mr Benn originally appeared in a series of children's books which became the basis for an animated BBC series of the same name in the early 1970's.
Usually a conservatively dressed gentleman, Mr Benn left his London home dressed in a jacket and tie and his bowler hat. Paying a visit to a fancy dress shop the shop keeper would invite him try on an outfit, which then transported Mr Benn to another world, whether it be Native America, space travel or Palaeolithic times. The adventure would end when the shopkeeper stepped back into the changing room.
