From its Source to the Sea, Revised by John Dower, F.R.G.S.
G.W. Bacon, 1869.
370x950mm. India paper backed with linen showing the length of the Thames in three sections, with hand coloured highlighting. The map is still attached to its original green cloth folder, into which it folds. Cloth folder a little worn and stained, but the map is in very good condition indeed. An excellent example of a very early Bacon map
George Washington Bacon (1830-1922) was one of the most prolific Victorian cartographers. He began his career in 1866 producing maps of the American Civil War, to be published in Bacon's Descriptive Handbook Of America. The attention to detail in this work led to Bacon being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in 1866.
