Ara Vos Prec
The Ovid Press, 1920.
First edition. 4to. Number 245 of 264 copies. Publisher's quarter yellow cloth over black boards with paper title label to the spine. Signed by the author on the title page with his manuscript correction of Vus to Vos in the title. A very good copy, but somewhat worn to the spine ends and title label with a short spit to the rear joint. Hinges cracked, but holding.
Eliot's third book of verse and now rather scarce, particularly in a signed state. Explaining the error in the title, Eliot wrote to Gallup that "The correct title of the book is Ara Vos Prec. It only happened to be Vus on the title page because I don't know Provençal, and I was quoting from an Italian edition of Dante the editor of which apparently did not know Italian either"; the mistake was noticed in time for the correct title to be printed on the spine-label.
