First American edition. 8vo. Quarter green cloth over grey boards, lettered in silver in printed dustwrapper. INSCRIBED on the front free endpaper, "For Helen and Kurt Wolff signed with best wishes by Edith Sitwell." Seven black and white plates. A very good copy in a very good dustwrapper, slight damp staining to lower spine area and some wear to edges.
Helen and Kurt Wolff worked as publishers in Germany until 1940 when they were forced to flee to America. Kurt Wolff published works by many German and foreign authors. Most significantly he was Kafka's first publisher, responsible for the publication of Die Verwandlung in 1915. In the post-war period both Helen and Kurt Wolff were responsible for many good literary publications, including this Sitwell book of poems.
