[WILDE, Oscar] Theatre Programme for A Woman of No Importance at His Majesty's Theatre, Wednesday, May 22nd, and Every Evening, at 8.30.

Warrington & Co., 1907.

The original programme for the revival of A Woman of No Importance. 235x160mm. Landscape bifold sheet, printed in red and black on laid paper. A fine copy, with a central crease but exceptionally crisp and clean.

A rare programme for the 1907 revival of Wilde's second play.
The English actor and theatre manager, Herbert Beerbohm Tree began performing in the 1870s and by 1887 was managing the Haymarket Theatre, winning praise for adventurous programming and lavish productions, and starring in many of its productions. A devoted fan of Wilde's work, Tree commissioned A Woman of No Importance for production at his theatre, playing the lead roll of Lord Illingworth himself. The production ran for 113 performances, and was considered a success.
In 1899, he helped fund the rebuilding, and became manager of, His Majesty's Theatre and in 1907 decided to revive the play opening on 22 May.
