Philip Norman was a British artist who "Frequently depicted parts of London that he knew, particularly buildings or areas which stood as a survivor of a bygone past or which were about to be demolished. He also recorded the history of the buildings which he painted or photographed in such works as "London Vanished and Vanishing"" [British Museum]
Inman records that most of the illustrations were borrowed from the South Kensington Museum (now the V&A).
