First edition, privately printed and issued. Signed by Pauline Baynes to the lower right corner. 510 x 710mm. Illustrated map of Bilbo's journey in The Hobbit, in full colour. A very good example, crisp, but somewhat faded.
The rare private printing of Pauline Baynes's There And Back Again map of Bilbo's journey in The Hobbit. There were 50 privately printed copies planned for the Map Of Middle-Earth, and it is reasonable to presume a similarly small quantity were produced for the present map.
This example has "first printing issued privately" to the colophon. The trade edition has "First Trade Printing 1971" to the colophon. It is also signed by Pauline Baynes, but this is uncommon; it was not signed as a matter of course.
