First edition. Signed by Christopher Tolkien on the front free endpaper. Navy cloth, lettered gilt to the spine, in original dustwrapper, with emblems designed by J.R.R. Tolkien.WITH: An autograph letter signed by Christopher Tolkien, sent to his royalties accountant at Allen & Unwin K.A.M. Abbott. The letter confirms receipt of the year end accounts for 1975, and asks that payment be delayed for tax reasons (9th May 1976). Folding map of Beleriand printed in black and red. A fine copy in a near fine dustwrapper, slightly faded to spine with a short closed tear to the upper cover.
A rare example of a signed first edition of The Silmarillion, and a fine association copy, being signed for Tolkien's royalties accountant at Allen & Unwin, with a signed letter from Tolkien to him.
