Concertina peepshow, comprising four hand coloured lithographed panels, showing both the two tunnel channels below ground and the Thames with ships and bridges above. The panels are joined at the sides by paper 'bellows' and it is all housed in a card box with a further chromolithograph of the entrance to the tunnel on the upper cover with a central peep hole. 124 x 150 x 390mm when extended. Sold by C. Abel-Klinger of Nuremberg, with their papel label to base of the box. A very good example, a little wear to the box.
One of a number of peepshows made during the construction of the Thames Tunnel in the early 19th century.
This peepshow displays both the tunnel and the river, with people, horses and carts uses the tunnel below, and ships on the river above.
