OAKLEY, Graham They Learned a Lot About Seafaring on That Voyage Original Watercolour Artwork For The Church Mice Take a Break

2000.

Original illustration of Sampson and the church mice. 18cm x 12cm. Watercolour on paper, heightened in white. Signed by Oakley to bottom middle. In very good condition, one short closed tear to top left corner, small pieces of tape to outer corners. Unmounted.

Graham Oakley's delightful series of Church Mice books were inspired by observing the former inhabitants (the mice) of an old mill the artist was renovating in Wiltshire. The escapades of the church mice are closely monitored by their friend, Sampson, the church's ginger tabby cat. In this tale Sampson and the mice need to rescue their fossil which has been stolen and taken to sea.

From the artists's estate.
